FREE Homeschool Curriculum Planning Trello Board

What’s a Trello Board?

I LOVE the FREE Version of Trello…and have used it for years to organize a variety of types of information from planning to record keeping.

But what is Trello? It’s an awesome tool for planning and organizing information. (In more “technical” terms, it’s a Kanban system.)

How Does It Work?

In my opinion, Trello is just like a giant whiteboard with sticky notes all over it that you can reposition and edit easily. You can click and drag “cards” from one list (column) to another. And you can add labels and sort, edit, and format the cards to give you a visual system for storing information.

How I Use It

Although I have used Trello for many purposes, the one I’m going to discuss here is planning homeschool curriculum for my kids.

I create a column (Trello calls it a “list”) for each subject. Then, I put a color-coded card for each kid under every subject. These form a sort of sub-heading for my list. Subjects that are family subjects don’t need individual cards.

Under each kid’s card, I add additional cards with various curriculum I am planning on using or even considering.

I use one card per curriculum option - so if I am still deciding between multiple options, I will create one for each curriculum or resource.

Then, each of these cards can be linked to the websites where I might purchase it and labels such as “plan to use,” “decided against” etc. can be added to them. I will often also add my thoughts in the notes section of each card.

These cards are so easy to copy and paste or even just move from one list to another. So if I want to use the same company for several kids but need to adjust the grade level and book, I can copy and paste and then edit the cards.

How to Get Started

You can copy this board and make it your own! Just fill out the form at the bottom or top of this article!

Each of the Trello Cards in the board has further information explaining how to make it your own and how I utilize it to keep myself organized as I plan for the year ahead.

Once you open it in Trello you will be able to view the instructions and the details in my samples.

If you DO NOT HAVE A TRELLO ACCOUNT - just know you can use the Free version without having to do the “free trial.” Just create your account and choose not to do the free trial (unless you want to!) and then create your own first Workspace - name it whatever you want. It’s yours!! Then, you are ready to copy this board into your account - onto your first “Workspace” - and you can personalize it to your heart’s content. :-)

The boxes in the first list (column) on this board have instructions. So, if you are brand new to Trello, never fear! I have you covered. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions for how to make this better! Thanks!
